Berowra Fauna Fair Photography Competition Winners

Thanks to all of those who entered the competition and to the prize winners who won a family entry to the Australian Walkabout Wildlife Park.

Also many thanks to the Hornsby Heights Camera Club for judging the competition and putting on a stunning display at the Berowra Fauna Fair.

13-17 Age Group

1st Place – A vibrant rainbow lorikeet standing out in the vast green. Charlotte Hare

Lovely composition and exposure. Beautiful soft background (shallow depth of field) which helps the bird stand out against what would have been a distracting background. Congratulations Charlotte

2nd Place – Native Autumn – Sophie Eastwood

Lovely image with soft focused background, we like the colour palette and how the kookaburra is leaning in the same direction as the branch. Be mindful of blown out highlights but otherwise a beautiful image. Congratulations Sophie

3rd Place – Water Dragon at the creek – Alyssa Hurd

Beautiful water dragon. We like the leading line from the tree root which takes the viewer through the image to its main subject. If the background was softer (shallow depth of field) the water dragon would be less camouflaged in its surroundings and stand out a little more. Congratulations Alyssa

Honourable Mention – Spotting Native flowers – Ruby Osborne

Beautiful Sydney Boronia, striking colour and lovely subject for the area. If the centre flower was sharp it would have made the image stronger. Think about cropping the top third to remove background distractions but otherwise a pretty image. Well done Ruby

8-12 Age Group

1st place “Glow of the sunset” – (I took this picture at a picnic, you can see the ripples the duck is making in the foreground)       Olivia Vierboom

Very sharp , nice balanced composition. The little circular ripple in the foreground adds lovely interest. Think about maybe lightning the foreground just a little to really show that beautiful ripple. Clouds in the sky are lovely. Well done Olivia

2nd Place – Hues of nature –  Aisha Chugh

Beautiful vibrant colour which really stood out to us. To make it even stronger, think about a little crop either side which would remove those brighter leaves that can take your attention from the beautiful flower. Congratulations Aisha

3rd Place – Morning banksia – Rose Scott

Beautiful golden colour and lovely early morning light, backlighting the banksia. Really well seen. A softer blurred background would help the banksia stand out even more. Well done Rose

Honourable Mention – Berowra Sunset – Zoe Pearce

Beautiful light, lovely colours in the sky and really nice framing with the silhouette of the tree. If this was a little lighter it would be even stronger but taking an image at sunset or sunrise can be difficult so congratulations on what you’ve captured Zoe, well done.
